VOP 2015-04-19: Amos Gvirtz on Palestinian Bedouins

This week Voice of Palestine interviews Amos Gvirtz, an Israeli peace activist currently on a speaking tour to highlight the dispossession of the Palestinian Bedouins in the Negev/Naqab. We talk with Amos about Israel’s discriminatory laws, especially as they adversely affect the Bedouins, as well as the true nature of Zionism and how that impacts the possibilities for genuine peace. We concluded by detailing his upcoming trip to Vancouver later this week which includes presenting at the Necef Sabeel Conference on Christian Zionism and making a presentation on April 26 at the Vancouver Quaker Meeting House.

VOP 2015-03-22: Cindy and Craig Corrie on 12 Years Remembering Rachel

This week Voice of Palestine has an in-depth conversation with Cindy and Craig Corrie, the parents of the late Rachel Corrie. We talk with them about the recent 12th anniversary of Rachel’s death and her courageous stand in Gaza, as well as their ongoing legal battles and new developments that have come to light. We also discuss their recent activities in Washington DC and their support of the BDS movement, in particular the struggle around the Olympia Food Co-op, the first food institution in the U.S. to implement a full boycott of Israeli products.

This week Voice of Palestine presents a wide-ranging and insightful interview with Dr. Sunera Thobani, Associate Professor at the Institute for Gender, Race, Sexuality and Social Justice at the University of British Columbia. We talk with her about International Women’s Day, BDS activism and the recent BDS referendum campaign on the UBC campus, and an upcoming forum being held later in March at UBC on racial and colonial violence.

VOP 2015-02-20: Charlotte Kates on Lina Khattab and Palestinian Prisoners

This week Voice of Palestine interviews Charlotte Kates, the coordinator of Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network. We talk with her about the work of Samidoun and the conditions of Palestinian political prisoners, including the case of Lina Khattab, a young 18 year old Palestinian media student at Bir Zeit University and folkloric dancer with El Funoun. Lina was just sentenced by an Israeli military court at Ofer to six months imprisonment on 16 February after it convicted her on charges of “throwing stones” and “participating in an unlawful demonstration.”

VOP 2015-02-10: Josh Ruebner on “Skip the (Netanyahu) Speech” to Congress

This week Voice of Palestine interviews Josh Ruebner, Policy Director of the U.S. Campaign to End The Israeli Occupation. We talk with him about their new campaign Skip The Speech targeting Israeli PM Netanyahu’s speech to Congress in early March. We’ll also talk about his article in “The Hill” about Capitol Hill’s one-sided hearing on Palestine joining the ICC, and the new paperback edition of his book “Shattered Hopes”.
We conclude with a piece of music from Jewish American folksinger David Rovics, Israeli Geography 101, written after Netanyahu’s 2011 speech to the US Congress.

VOP 2015-01-29: Tyler Levitan from IJV on Canada’s Shameless Policies

This week Voice of Palestine cohost Hanna Kawas has a conversation with Tyler Levitan, campaign coordinator for Independent Jewish Voices IJV. He talks with him about IJV’s reaction to recent statements from the Canadian government, including Public Safety Minister Blaney’s declaration about “zero-tolerance” on Boycott Divestment and Sanctions (amongst other things), as well as IJV’s Jan. 2 statement on Palestine’s submission to the ICC. There is also discussion of Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird’s recent experiences in Ramallah and the issue of the Harper government’s shameless policy on Zionism and anti-Semitism in general.

This week Voice of Palestine talks with Canadian Friends of Sabeel (CFOS) Chair, Rev. Robert Assaly, who was recently in Palestine for the 5th anniversary of the Kairos Palestine Document. He also participated in a CFOS organized witness trip focusing on models of popular resistance and liberation theology. Our discussion covered many aspects of his extended trip to Palestine(which also included Gaza), as well as the upcoming conference in Vancouver at the end of April on Christian Zionism.

Mazin is a well-known Palestinian author, activist and educator who teaches at both Bir Zeit and Bethlehem Universities. VOP 2014-12-23: Nahla Abdo on her new book “Captive Revolution”

This week Voice of Palestine interviews Nahla Abdo about the launch of her new book “Captive Revolution: Palestinian Women’s Anti-Colonial Struggle Within the Israeli Prison System.
Nahla is an Arab feminist activist and Professor of Sociology at Carleton University in Ottawa. She has published extensively on women, racism, nationalism, and the State in the Middle East, with a special focus on Palestinian women. We talked with Nahla about her book, Palestinian women political prisoners (as well as Palestinian prisoners in general) and the impact of the BDS movement.
